Scaling Up Building Simulation Workflow

  • Updated the data workflow to permit the use of custom weather files for each building.
  • Scaled up the workflow to simulate building energy (OpenStudio) for 125 million buildings on supercomputer Theta (C++, MPI), in collaboration with building energy experts.
  • Published Model America dataset which consists of 122.9 million building models.
  • Set up a data workflow to transfer initialized models to Theta, and to transfer model outputs back to internal infrastructure (80TB of data).

Visualizing Building Simulation Outputs

  • Augmented Cesium-based Virtual EPB web tool to include a comparison of energy, demand, and cost savings for a variety of building retrofit options (e.g., improving insulation or upgrading water heaters) for all buildings in the Electrical Powerboard of Chattanooga service area. I also improved the visualization (choice of colormaps and base map).
