Leadership

  • Co-led a team of 5 researchers for 1.5 years of the project.
  • Mentored a postdoctoral researcher and guided development of interactive visualization tools for the relation between power outages and weather, and their impact on human travel behavior.

Research and Development

  • Developed a HPC-based pipeline to process Point of Interest (POI) visit data from GPS traces.
  • Obtained and processed power outage data and weather data (temperature, precipitation) and fused it with data extracted from reports about the load shedding and grid failures during Winter Storm Uri.
  • Determined detailed building occupancy based on POI visits.
  • Processed, cleaned, and enriched over 500GB of GPS data using parallelization (map reduce) on Kestrel supercomputer.
  • Developed a hybrid method of deterministic and ChatGPT-based assignment of POI types to over 100k POIs based on their business names.
  • Analyzed changes in mobility and occupancy patterns in the context of power outages.
  • Conducted a case study of the 2021 Winter Storm Uri power outages in Texas.
